Interview with Emil Westrin

Resteröds:

Tjena Emil, how is the situation? What do the days look like in the northern parts of our elongated country?

Emil:

Hey guys!

Yes, but it's good! We have cold days up here and more snow than in 30 years. I love weather and tough climates, so for me it's absolutely perfect!

Resteröds:

Can you describe to those who do not follow you in your social media what your life looks like

Emil:

My life revolves very much around nature and fly fishing in particular. I have been fishing since I was 3 years old and over the years it just gets more and more with time. In winter, I try to use nature as a calming element where I like to put on my skis, go out into the woods, make a fire and make coffee to relax and just enjoy what we actually have here in Sweden, completely free as well.

When the summer comes later, my focus will be 100% on fishing. During the early summer, I hang out a lot around Umeå and fish for salmon and sea trout, and in early July I change my focus to fishing for trout and char in our fantastic mountain world. There I usually walk out to different waters, but to some places I take the help of helicopters or seaplanes.

Resteröds:

Sounds like you live the dream! Do you have any wonderful adventures planned for the future?

Emil:

Of course I have!

Now we will see what can be done or not thanks to the pandemic, but I will be at home a little longer than normal, but during the month of July I will probably be in Jämtland for a few weeks and from August I will go to Norrbotten for combined fishing and photo assignments.

As I also guide other fishermen up on the Kola Peninsula in northern Russia, the idea was to go there again this year, but as I said, we will see how much it is possible to travel when it's time for it. It's quite nice in Sweden too, so you might get the opportunity to explore further at home

Resteröds:

You were on a trip to Russia recently. Tell me about it? How was it?

Emil:

Yes exactly! After the fall of the Soviet Union, they were very quick to make a gigantic nature reserve of an environment that we humans have never affected. Ie no hydropower, no fishing or forestry. In fact, it is one of the few areas in the world that counts as "real wilderness".

Here they have taken advantage of the untouched nature and conduct an eco tourism which involves letting in a few tourists per year, with extremely large restrictions to preserve the area as it has always been. I then go here with a group of 5 people from Scandinavia to experience nature and fish in totally untouched waters.

It's cool travel, and it's like jumping into a time machine back in time, before we humans destroyed our nature the way we have done today.

Resteröds:

How did you get in touch with us at Resteröds?

Emil:

I have always liked the timeless, classic and functional fashion. I do not follow so many trends but like to wear clothes for as long as I can (they still get nicer with time). I have owned a lot of Resteröd's garments before I became an ambassador, and for me it is incredibly important when I enter into different types of collaborations that I feel for the company I will work with and can also stand for what the brand stands for.

With Resteröds, it has been love at first sight as I love the fit of the clothes, the traditional, how they fit my body and of course, the environmental work you put in. So for me the choice was easy, I will work with a company in the fashion industry and it is Resteröds I will work with :)

Resteröds:

We wish you all the best in the future and look forward to following you through your camera lens!
